Water Treatment Success: Ålands Vatten

Ålands Water has taken a major step toward sustainable and efficient water treatment by upgrading its drinking water system with a reliable ozone solution from Primozone. The new installation ensures clean, safe, and great-tasting water for the entire island of Åland serving both residents and the large seasonal population during summer.

Located in the Baltic Sea, the Åland archipelago depends on high-quality water production to meet demand. The plant supplies 475 m³/h of drinking water to the population of Mariehamn and surrounding areas. To ensure stability and quality, Ålands Water replaced its old air-fed ozone generators with the Primozone GM18 system, known for its high ozone concentration, modular design, and energy efficiency.

The new system provides a continuous supply of high-quality water while removing algae, bacteria, and humus — substances that can affect both taste and safety. Part of the ozone from two Primozone GM18 units supports the flocculation process, significantly reducing the amount of chemicals needed in the filtration step. The rest of the ozone is used to create a strong barrier against viruses, algae, and parasites, ensuring superior water hygiene
